Humane society overpopulated once again
Posted Mon, Jul 19th 2010, 18:59(Grand Cayman - CITN) -
With over 90 dogs at the shelter, the Cayman Islands Human Society is more crowded that ever before.
Aside from the usual homeless pets, some dogs with collars are taking refuge at the shelter as well. With few volunteers and limited space at the Humane Society, the animals are in dire straits according to volunteers.
Shelter liaison, Twyla Escalante, told Cayman 27 crews the recent overcrowding is due to people not being responsible with their pets.
She added that it's up to the public to solve the problem by adopting new pets, and being more careful with old ones.
The dogs are evaluated on a case by case basis, and putting pets down is avoided at all costs.
